O is for Old Men #AtoZChallenge

OYes, I recognize old men is an odd category for the letter “O”. But there’s nothing that warms my heart more than seeing a happy grandpa on a park bench eating an waffle ice cream cone on a sunny spring day. Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing an unwanted grandpa shoved into a corner of a nursing home to rot in silence and isolation.

So, I like to paint them.Half_face_Old_man_glasses

Blackwood_workshop_old_manI like to paint old men with scruffy hair and stories in their wrinkles. It’s my way of taking them out of isolation and giving them a waffle cone.

  1. I LOVE this! Thank you so much for loving old men. In their hearts they’re still 20… 30 .. full of life and energy. So much water under the bridge! I’ve been working on my Dad’s memoirs, which he left on cassette tape. Hearing him talk about what he did as a young man is even better than the stories he told us. I also recommend a book – Water For Elephants :)

Love your work Abby. Glad to have found you on the Challenge.

    1. What a cool project! What a gift for your Dad to leave you too. Makes me wonder if I should ask my parents and grandparents to record their stories before it’s too late. Is there something particular your Dad’s sharing through his memoirs or is it just all precious memories? (I tried Water for Elephants once…and couldn’t get through it…I know, I know, bad Abby. Maybe I’ll try again :)
